GOMBS



What is that you say?  Greens, onions, mushrooms, beans, berries and seeds.  These are the foods that are anti-cancer.  Cruciferous greens are best.  Shallots are the best onions along with New York bold, Northern Red and Western Yellow.  White button, white stuffing, cremini, portobello,
reishi, maitake mushrooms are best.  And of course, all beans, berries and seeds are good.  So everyday eat some greens and chop of some onions and mushrooms and some beans and go to town.  Also, make sure you eat slow and chew your food.  The only way to release those anti-cancer nutrients is to thoroughly chew your greens and everything else you eat.  You want to know more check out Dr. Fuhrman's website here.

Spoon Butter

No, it is not something you eat. When I bought my beautiful wood chopping block which I like to call a "pretty pretty".  Which means we don't actually use it.  My oldest son apparently did not get that memo. I walked into the kitchen one day and found him using it.  Ugh!  Oh, well.


When I purchased the chopping block I also purchased some mineral oil.  I used it once and then it sat in my cabinet under the sink.  I never thought of it again until I read a blog post from Heidi at 101 Cookbooks.  I love that blog.  If you haven't checked out her blog then head over there right after here.  You won't be disappointed.  Back to the butter.  I had to make this stuff.  I had bees wax and coconut oil and the time.  Why?  I am on a new path of healthier eating and a healthier lifestyle.  I am doing a 180 degree turn in my life.  I figure if so much of what I have believed in the past is now turning out to be a lie, then what else? When I bought the mineral I thought it had to be okay.  But mineral oil is a by-product of distillation of petroleum to produce gasoline and other petroleum-based products from crude oil and I don't want that in my food.  So, I made spoon butter. In the picture below I used it on the lemon juicer but not on the wooden spoons yet.  See how much nicer the lemon juicer looks than the spoons.  If you also want to make spoon butter then head over to 101 Cookbooks and Heidi can show you how!  It is so simple!

Building The Immune System




Do you want to build your immune system?  Eat Real Food!  Processed foods are killing our immune system which in turn is killing us.  Our bodies are amazing! Our bodies are made to not get cancer, disease and sickness.  BUT, you have to give it what it needs and giving it processed foods is not going to give it the fuel to rebuild itself.  Our blood rebuilds itself every 120 days, the liver can regrow, our bodies regenerate fully every 7 years.  But it can only do that on what you give it. You are what you eat, literally.  You don't put sludge in your car instead of fuel, right? Don't do that to your body!
And it is not just fast food it is also the processed foods you can buy at your local grocery stores, you  know cereals and the boxed foods.   Here is a funny chart but true.


Our foods for fuel should look like this.


We need fruits, veggies, muscle and organ meats, fish, small amounts of dairy, healthy oils, whole grains, nuts and seeds.  And we need to eat locally and seasonally.  So little by little let us crowd out the bad with some good and before we know it, we will be eating nothing but good!
